Our History

Pastors Dwight and DeAnna were ordained in 2013 as Elders by Apostle Ray and Pastor Sharon McQueen of Family Life Church, Lynchburg, Virginia.  In January, 2014, Pastors Dwight and DeAnna officially launched Breakthrough Worship Ministries in Morrow, Georgia. The name was taken from Luke 4:18. They took a pawn shop in Lake Harbin Plaza and turned it into a church. Pastor Dwight and DeAnna, their 3 children and his mother-in-law, Mother Kay Gafford, were the first members.

That first year, God began sending people who were not members of other churches. More than twenty people gave their lives to the Lord and joined Breakthrough. It was prophesied that someone would give the church a Hammond B3 organ and in 2015 that's exactly what happened. Breakthrough Worship held its first community book bag giveaway in Lake Harbin Plaza. By the end of 2015, Breakthrough purchased its first van with cash.

In 2016, God gave Pastor DeAnna a vision to start an organization that was intentional about bringing hope to those suffering with lupus and cancer, and iam HOPE (Helping Others to Push and Endure) was conceived. This organization is now the community development corporation arm of Breakthrough Worship Center, and has evolved to include support services for survivors of domestic violence and child sexual abuse. Each year iam HOPE hosts a Lupus and Cancer Gala to honor survivors. Additionally, they send HOPE boxes all over the world to men and women recently diagnosed with lupus and cancer.

In 2017, God led Pastors Dwight and DeAnna to change the name of the church from Breakthrough Worship Ministries to Breakthrough Worship Center of Hope, and a new logo was established shortly thereafter. This new name reflected the mission of Breakthrough. People continued to join Breakthrough and give their lives to Christ.

By 2018, Breakthrough Worship had outgrown its storefront, whose capacity was around 130 people. There was no space to accommodate the growing youth ministry. In November 2018, Jackson Elementary School opened its doors to partnering with Breakthrough Worship Center. Pastors Dwight and DeAnna began facilitating weekly Wednesday morning prayer with the staff, and Sunday morning services permanently moved to the school with a new service time of 10 am.
